LaBar Golf Renovates Shinnecock Hills Course For 2018 US Open

LaBar Golf Renovations renovated the Shinnecock Hills golf course in Long Island, NY over the course of three years. The historic course now has a cohesive look to match William Flynn’s 1931 design.

LaBar was able to bring back the nostalgic windswept seaside landscape, recapturing the lost area. Fairway grass was taken out and replaced with thin, tall fescue (grown by Delea Sod).

Opens have been mowed shorter to allow for more creative recovery shots. There was also some pretty substantial widening of the fairways, but as of the 2017 Open, the USGA decided that it was too wide and required it to be changed.
