KALAMAZOO, MI — It was just an empty field in Kalamazoo a few years ago. On Tuesday, July 14, the Kalamazoo Country Club announced the opening of The Eleven, a new 11-hole short course at 4101 Oakland Drive.
It was designed by golf course architect Andrew Green with the goal of making the game more accessible while maintaining strategic complexity. The 1,295-yard course features holes ranging from 50 to 185 yards, with each designed to emphasize precision and creativity over power.
The course opened on June 5 and follows the recent completion of the private club’s reimagined clubhouse and represents another phase in the facility’s transformation.
Kalamazoo Country Club is accepting new members, although the club’s press release and website don’t list pricing information.
“One of the goals of The Eleven was to create a place where every golfer feels like they belong,” Green said. “Whether you’re picking up a club for the first time or you’re a scratch player, every hole asks different questions and encourages creativity.”
Green, known for restoration work at Interlachen Country Club and Inverness Club, designed The Eleven with multiple teeing areas and flexible routing to accommodate players of varying skill levels. The course can be played in less time than a traditional 18-hole round.
“Instead of needing four or five hours, golfers can come out, experience every type of shot the game offers, and do it in a way that’s lighter, more accessible and full of soul,” Green said.
The short course serves as a preview of Green’s design approach ahead of an 18-hole championship course scheduled to open at the country club in 2027.
